I just read one that called it the Wachtower Cult of Horrors. That' s my favorite one so far. I think it's a perfect description.

Senior Citizens......How does your congregation treat them?
by crazyblondeb innot as good as they use too... but then again they are following the lead of the wts.
why bother with fellowship when you can plug everyone into the telephone.. one one hand they are pushing fs, on the other they are making so many changes that several of the elderly are getting depressed, especially ever since the may 1, 2007 qfr.
with the afternoon bs soon yanked, many not allowed to drive at night, and elderships that don't care enough to orchestrate carpools....it is bad..

I have an elderly aunt that has been in the same JW congregation for at least 54 years. She was one of the charter members. She was always extremely active, attended all meetings, went out in field service, hosted the Tuesday night Bible Study at her home, and hosted many , many social events and receptions at her home for JW members. She is now 85 years old, has had multiple mini-strokes and suffers from dementia . She has her good days and her bad.
As far as I know she is never visited by anyone in the congregation and no one comes to her home to help her. Two sisters and a brother-in-law are her caregivers as well as a niece who is paid. She attends as many meetings as she can. She attended the DC this summer but I sincerely hope that is the last one that they drag her to.
She gets no visits from the elders, no food brought to her house, no help with the upkeep of her home. She never marrried and has no children. Her life was devoted to the JWs. But she is now kicked aside like an old shoe.

HELLO, I'M NEW AND.........
by billie jean ini never believed a word of any of it !.
raised a j.w from birth, i'd sit in the meetings and at conventions wondering what the hell it was all about and that it was all one big joke and imagine that they''d all suddenly turn around laughing and pointing at me !!
saying something like "haha the joke's on you".

Hi Billie Jean,
I can relate to everything you have said. I was also raised from birth as a JW. I can't say that I never believed a word of it. I did. My parents told me it was the truth. All of my mother's relatives were believers. Many of our family friends were JWs. It wasn't until I got to high school that I knew it was all a pack of lies and I had been deceived by many people in my life. My parents left after I did. Although they never discussed with me anything about their decision to become JWs or raise their children as JWs or even their decision to leave the religion. My mother died in May and it was one of many taboo subjects with her. She was very defensive whenever the subject was asked about.
I understand completely your rant and I'm right there with you. And I'm older than you and I've been out since I was a teenager. I have been so happy to find this forum. So many of us have so much in common.

No further education - is the policy backfiring?
by eyeslice init seems to me that there was a softening of the no further education edict for a little while.
but just lately the 'dangers' of pursuing further education and worldly careers has been made a real issue again.
it seems to me though that this has as much danger of driving the very ones they would like to keep, the talented, the bright, the high achievers, out of the organization.

The secret is in the mind-numbing & dumbing down. It's what they need to keep dissension down.
I agree with this statement. They want an organization full of high-school dropout window washers. This keeps them down and needy and unquestioning. All of my relatives that are still JWs fit in this category. Many of them did not graduate from high school. And they work at menial, minimum-wage type jobs. It is sad and tragic.

You are not responsible for your mother's depression. Don't let her or your father manipulate you. You are an adult. If you no longer believe the crap that JWs teach then why would you want to go to a DC? Don't live a lie. Stand your ground. Be true to who you are. Your parents will just have to accept it. There is nothing they can do unless you allow them to.

Oh, yeah, we used to read from the Yearbook every morning too! I had forgotten all about that. That must have been something they were telling all the parents to do with their kids. Ugh! Child abuse!
